Dislodged Teeth
Injuries to the mouth can cause teeth to be pushed back into their sockets. Dr. Varella or your dentist may reposition and stabilize your tooth.
If root canal treatment is necessary, it is usually started within a few weeks of the injury and a medication, such as calcium hydroxide, will be used between appointments. After stabilizing your tooth, Dr. Varella will place a permanent root canal filling and refer you back to your dentist for proper restoration.

Sometimes a tooth may be pushed partially out of the socket. Again, Dr. Varella or your dentist may reposition and stabilize your tooth.
If the pulp remains healthy, then no other treatment is necessary. Yet, if the pulp becomes damaged or infected, root canal treatment will be required.
IMPORTANT: Routine follow up is especially important in cases of traumatized tooth or teeth. Root resorption (loss of root structure) is a common sequelae following this type of injury. Root resorption is usually asymptomatic but it may cause severe damage to the root structure, ultimately resulting in increased mobility and loss of the tooth if not detected at early stages.
Avulsed Teeth
If an injury causes a tooth to be completely knocked out of your mouth, it is important that you are treated immediately! If this happens to you, keep the tooth moist.
If possible, put it back into the socket. A tooth can be saved if it remains moist.
You can even put the tooth in milk or a glass of water (add a pinch of salt.) Dr. Varella may start root canal treatment based upon the stage of root development.
The length of time the tooth was out of your mouth and the way the tooth was stored, may influence the type of treatment you receive.
Injuries in children
An injured immature tooth may need one of the following procedures to improve the chances of saving the tooth:
Apexogenesis
This procedure encourages the root to continue development as the pulp is healed. Soft tissue is covered with medication to encourage growth.
The tip of the root (apex) will continue to close as the child gets older. In turn, the walls of the root canal will thicken.
If the pulp heals, no additional treatment will be necessary. The more mature the root becomes, the better the chance to save the tooth.
Apexification
In this case, the unhealthy pulp is removed. The doctors place medication into the root to help a hard tissue form near the root tip.
This hardened tissue provides a barrier for the root canal filling. At this point, the root canal walls will not continue to develop, making the tooth susceptible to fractures.
So it is important to have the tooth properly restored by your dentist.

In general, root canals have a bad rep. I wasn’t looking forward to mine even though Dr Varella said they would make me as comfortable as possible. But my anxiousness was all for nothing. From start to finish, I felt nothing. Dr V continued to check if I was doing ok and I was fine. It seemed like it only took about 30 minutes (although it did was probably closer to an hour). After heading home, i had no pain during the rest of the day or the next day - didn’t even need to take any meds. I very much appreciate Dr V and his staff for making my procedure so easy and comfortable. I would highly recommend them!

The best dental experience I have ever had.I went in feeling very apprehensive.I was put at ease immediately by Amber at the front desk.Amber was expert at letting me know how the insurance and payments would work for me.Then Divina put me even more at ease.Finally,Dr Varella explained each step that was to occur assuring me that I would feel no pain.He told the truth.I am so happy with the way I was treated from start to finish.I am also happy with the whole staff and my procedure.If I need another procedure requiring an endodontist ,I most definitely will go back to Dr. Varella.

Dr. Varella & staff are awesome, professional, knowledgeable, efficient, lite touch with little to no pain and went the extra mile by staying late twice to help me. I had a root canal around 20 years ago. Missed a root which lead to Facial Cellulitis. Really nasty infection. Not only did they see me immediately after my Dentist called and a few days later worked me into their very busy schedule (worked late again). I had a vacation planned which only gave Dr. Varella a small window to work with and he did not disappoint. I have been to many Endodontics before; however I will always go back to Dr. Claudio Varella.

It may be hard to imagine how getting a root canal would be considered a positive experience, but I have to say that it was positive in every way! A most excellent experience. Dr. Varella explained everything and made sure I had no questions or concerns about the procedure. He even reached out to my husband to introduce himself and answer any questions and to reassure him. He also called that evening to check on me. Highly, highly recommend this office for any endodontal care. They are both highly professional and very personable very proficient and caring. I was referred to Dr. Varella by my dentist, which on its own, scared me a little bit. I was immediately at ease from my first encounter. Dr. Varella and staff are truly amazing. My husband and I both have had several root canals with Dr. Varella. Amber his front desk receptionist is highly knowledgeable with insurance and very compassionate. His assistants are all very sweet. AWESOME Dentist! I start off by saying I don't like going to the dentist (It's painful, all most all the time). But this "Man" was "Awesome". How do I describe him? 1. Excellent communication skills (explain everything) 2. He tried his best to make me feel comfortable (Root canal) Tho he tried to clam my fears, the anxiety was still there as always. (but he was aware of that and tried to clam me. (Awesome) 3. strong interpersonal skills 4. Best of all good manual dexterity skills (my mouth is small). Let's not forget that "Staff" (Awesome) they were professional and very pleasant. "Wow:. Will I go again to him ("yes") Do I feel less anxious about the dentist ("No").
